Climbing Elbrus (5642 m) from south 11 days

Day-to-day itinerary:

  • Day 1. Arrival to Moscow. At the airport, you will be meeting by our representative with your name on our company board. You will be escorted to the hotel where you are expected to have dinner and get acquainted with the members of the group.
  • Day 2. Tour of Moscow city. This tour takes you Red Square and the Kremlin. You can visit the two main Moscow cathedrals - St. Basil's and Christ the Saviour and a marvelous 19th century shopping mall - GUM. At the end of the tour the guide can show you a couple of the most beautiful Moscow metro stations. Time permitting, we visit the Tretyakov Art Gallery. The guide will help you to get a good understanding of Russian history, culture and art.
  • Day 3. Flight to Mineral Vody. After breakfast in Moscow, we will fly to Mineral Vody. From airport our transfer takes you to Baksan Valley (2,400m/ 7875 ft). to the hotel accommodation, where you will have an opportunity to meet your guides and be able to check your gear in the evening
  • Day 4. Acclimatization hike up to Cheget Mountain (3350 m/11000 ft). We will see impressive views of Mt. Elbrus and start adjusting to the high altitude. Descend back to Azau by a single person chairlift. This is the last day before climbing to High Camp. The rest of the afternoon is spent organizing our gear. Overnight stay at the hotel.
  • Day 5. Move to the mountain hut at 3800 m (Bochky’ or ‘Karabashi’). You will have an opportunity to visit and equipment store if you desire to rent some gear. There is a quite a long walk from the cable cars drop off to the hut. The walk will be good for acclimatization. It will not be necessary for you to carry your backpacks since we use a snow-cat to help us with that.
  • Day 6. Acclimatization hike to Pastukhova Rocks (4800 m/ 15748 ft.). Review basic mountaineer skills. Learn how to climb roped up. Descend back to the hut. Final check and preparations for Summit Day.
  • Day 7. Summit Day! We leave the hut at 2 a.m. for the summit ascent. It is possible to rent a snow-cat (Ratrak) for a group if desired. Climbing time to the west summit (5642 m /18,510 ft) is 8 to 10 hours. Enjoying the summit and the breathtaking views of the Caucasus mountain range. After the summit celebration and picture taking we will descend back to the Valley hotel.
  • Day 8. Extra day. This day will allow us to accommodate for a bad weather or the lack of acclimatization. 
  • Day 9. Transfer from Azau to the airport (Mineralnye Vody). Flight to St. Petersburg.
  • Day 10. Tour of St. Petersburg. Our professional guide will take you down Nevsky Prospect. There you will see the Kazan Cathedral and the Winter Palace. You will then proceed to Vasilevsky Island. Time permitting, we visit the Hermitage.
  • Day 11. The day of departure. After breakfast, transportation will be provided to take you to the airport in time for your check-in.
